The chair conducts research on the advancement of railway operating concepts and models given the growing importance of rail and public transport in intermodal passenger and freight mobility networks and the desired transition to sustainable transport. Teaching and research focus on the design and modeling of railway operations and the associated use of resources to increase the attractiveness and sustainability, performance and economic efficiency of railway systems.

Trends such as digitization, automation, dynamically increasing capacity requirements as well as new mobility services for passenger and freight transport must be translated into optimized and sustainable operating concepts for railroads. rail and public transport using innovative methods, particularly in the areas of railway operation, research operation, machine learning, modeling and simulation.

As a chair holder, you (m/f/x) will represent the scientific field of railway operation in teaching and research. You will have a teaching obligation in the master’s and diploma programs of the Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences “Friedrich List” as well as in teaching export to other faculties of TU Dresden. We look forward to your participation in academic self-administration and your willingness to teach in English and German. One of your main tasks will be the successful acquisition of third-party funding from federal (DFG, BMBF et al.) or European sources, as well as industrial partners and will therefore assume experience in research funded by external sources. Your willingness to cooperate with other professorships of the Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences “Friedrich List”, other structural units of TU Dresden and with other institutions within the DRESDEN-concept alliance is of particular importance to us.

We are looking for a dynamic and dedicated personality with international academic experience in the field of railway operations. We invite applications with proven expertise in at least two of the following areas:

  • Analysis, modeling and design of technologies, processes and systems for railway operations,
  • Digitization and automation of planning, operations and dispatch in rail transport,
  • Artificial intelligence or machine learning methods in railway operating processes and
  • Railway operations management.

We also hope to see interest and innovative ideas for the modernization of our faculty’s railway operations laboratory, which will be adapted to current scientific issues under the direction of this chair.

We welcome your application if you hold a university degree in the field of railway construction, civil engineering or related relevant disciplines, possess teaching skills as well as the special capacity for scientific work, which is usually proven by a Ph.D./Ph.D. as well as other outstanding academic achievements. The latter can be demonstrated via a postdoctoral habilitation/qualification, a junior professorship or equivalent. Applicants must fulfill the professional qualification requirements of § 58 of the Law on the Autonomy of Higher Education Institutions of the Free State of Saxony (SächsHSFG).
