Chair (W2) of Quantitative Methods,
sp. Econometrics

(with tenure at W2)

initially limited to a six-year contract, to be filled by October 1, 2023. The evaluation period of the mandate is four years. The tenure assessment should be initiated in the fifth year. Tenure assessment criteria will be mutually agreed during the appointment process. The essential performance criteria for the evaluation are publications in high-level international journals, the acquisition of third-party funds, the course offer and the quality of the teaching service. If the tenure decision is positive and the appointment conditions are met, the candidate will be appointed to a permanent chair (W2) of quantitative methods, in particular. Econometrics.

You (m/f/x) will carry out research and teaching activities in econometrics. Your focus will be on applied econometrics with research in an area related to the economics group. The position is intended to bridge the various disciplines within the Faculty of Business and Economics. We expect an excellent knowledge of modern quantitative-empirical methods and quasi-experimental research designs, as well as a willingness to transmit this knowledge to doctoral students in the Faculty of Business and Economics. You will teach in the bachelor’s, master’s and diploma programs of the Faculty of Business and Economics. We also expect the successful candidate to actively cooperate with members of the Faculty of Business and Economics and other disciplines of the university and to contribute to external fundraising. Your duties further include participation in academic self-administration.

You hold an excellent relevant doctorate and have published in leading international journals. You have the ability to teach introductory courses in statistics and econometrics as well as courses in advanced methods (e.g. causal inference, policy evaluation or statistical learning). We expect good teaching skills as well as the ability and willingness to offer lessons in English. Fluency in German is not a prerequisite for appointment. However, we would like the chair holder to acquire a working knowledge of German during the tenure assessment period to perform primary teaching and administrative tasks. Experience in securing third-party funding and managing research projects is required. Applicants must fulfill the professional qualification requirements of § 58 of the Law on the Autonomy of Higher Education Institutions of the Free State of Saxony (SächsHSFG).
