Dresden will turn into a “Christmas city” during the holiday season

Community groups in Dresden are hoping to make Christmas a little happier for everyone this year.

The return of the Christmas Night Market and Dresden Shines has sparked massive community collaboration to shine brighter than ever.

Dresden Shines Steering Committee Co-Chair Cindy Brewer said the entire city will be lit up with light displays and decorations to create a unique holiday experience for the entire holiday season.

“It started last year when we thought everyone needed a boost, something to distract us,” Brewer said. “Everyone came on board and we decorated everything.”

The community kicked off the festive season with the Dresden Shines illumination ceremony on Thursday.

“Almost everyone works together to put up light displays and decorate,” Brewer said. “Our goal is to be the Christmas Town of Southwestern Ontario.

The Christmas Night Market will take place on Saturday, November 27 from 3-8 p.m. in downtown Dresden. While the market is a one-day event, the holiday festivities will continue with the Dresden Kinsmen Santa Claus Parade on December 11 and the downtown Open Late ’til 8 shopping event every Thursday until December 23.

The organizers are also encouraging residents of Dresden and the region to decorate their homes with lights as part of the Illumination Tour. The initiative will give residents and visitors the opportunity to drive throughout the community and enjoy the exhibits.

Brewer said the community will also continue its Neighborhood Cup competition. She said judging would begin in the first week of December.

“It’s fierce competition and it looks like the community is serious this year,” Brewer said.

More information will be available on the social media pages of the event as well as on the official Dresden website.

“When you come to Dresden and shop in our stores, you’ll feel like you’ve been to Christmas Town.”
