European Senior Team Chess Championships 2022 opens in Dresden

The European Senior Team Chess Championships 2022 (50+ and 65+ categories) will be played from October 27 to November 5, 2022 in Dresden, Germany.

The event opens today with the technical meeting and the opening ceremony starting at 11:00 CEST, while the first round starts at 15:00 CEST.

A record 79 teams will take part in the tournament, with more than 370 players representing their federations. Among the seeds are GM Rabiega Robert (GER, Berlin 1, section 50+), GM Emms John (ENG, England 50 1, section 50+), GM Ftacnik Lubomir (SVK, Slovakia section 50+), GM Knaak Rainer (GER, Lasker Schachstiftung GK, section 65+), GM Meister Jakob (GER, Lasker Schachstiftung GK, section 65+) and GM Kalinitschew Sergey (GER, Lasker Schachstiftung GK, section 65+).

The Senior European Team Chess Championship 2022 will be played in two age categories: 50+ and 65+ with separate prizes for the top-ranked female teams. The championships will be played in 9 rounds, Swiss system, with a time control of 90 minutes for 40 moves followed by 30 minutes for the rest of the game + 30 seconds per move from move 1.

The winners of the event will receive trophies and medals, as well as the title of Senior European Team Chess Champion 2022 for the respective category. The total price of the event will be 6,000 EUR.
