Junior Professor (W1) of Philosophy of Science

is to be filled for an initial term of four years in a temporary civil service position at the earliest possible date. Pending a positive interim evaluation, the contract will be extended for a total period of six years. The mutually agreed assessment criteria upon acceptance of the position will form the basis of the assessment procedures. The essential performance criteria are academic achievement in the form of the development of an independent research profile in the field of philosophy of science and its implementation in third-party funded projects and publications, significant involvement in national and international peer-reviewed publications and international conferences, success in obtaining third-party funding, the initiation of collaborative projects within the Faculty of Letters, Humanities and Social Sciences and the School of humanities and social sciences, active cooperation with internal and external scientific institutions, as well as the development of innovative study programs for the field of philosophy of science with, if necessary also in English, and assessed teaching activities positively.

You (m/f/x) will represent the above-mentioned field and its national and international links with research and teaching with the greatest possible systematic breadth. In teaching, you will be responsible for lectures in German and English in study programs with philosophy as a subject, including the teacher training program. Compulsory education initially amounts to four semester hours per week. We also expect you to be actively involved in interdisciplinary research at TU Dresden. This concerns in particular the TUDiSC measure (“Disruption and Societal Change”) of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences.

We are looking for a personality who can provide research training in one of the following areas: Philosophy of Physics, Philosophy of Biology, Philosophy of Social Sciences, Ethics of Science, Philosophy of Artificial Intelligence, or the Scientific Issues of Digitization. We expect you to cooperate closely with the other areas of work of the Institute of Philosophy. You will find an atmosphere in which there is plenty of room for active participation and reorganization of the institute. We expect you to participate in the academic self-administration of the university and are looking for a candidate with experience in acquiring third-party funds. In addition, we are counting on your willingness to collaborate with the “Physics of Life” and “Center for Tactile Internet with Human-in-the-Loop” centers of excellence.
