Research associate/postdoc employment with TECHNISCHE UNIVERSITAT DRESDEN (TU DRESDEN)

At TU Dresden, Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences “Friedrich List”, Institute of Transport and Road Traffic Planning, the new Chair in Transport Modeling and Simulation offers a Research Associate / Postdoc position (m/f/x)

(subject to personal qualification, employees are paid according to salary group E 13 TV-L)

Effective July 1, 2022. The position is limited to two years. The duration of employment is regulated by the law on fixed-term research contracts (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz-WissZeitVG). The position offers the possibility of obtaining an additional academic qualification.

The chair studies models, algorithms and simulations to achieve a better scientific understanding of transport systems covering the microscopic, mesoscopic and macroscopic levels. Particular attention will be given to automated planning methods that take advantage of emerging data and new metrics that incorporate ethics-based concepts, including equity and justice in mobility systems. This position will be closely involved in the development and implementation of new methodologies, helping to create more equitable and efficient transportation outcomes for society.

Tasks:

  • Initiate, develop and maintain software in support of research and industry projects in the field of transport modeling and situation;
  • Work in collaboration with researchers in the use of the developed software;
  • Contribute to the writing of scientific articles and reports for international journals and report progress to other researchers and industry partners;
  • Assist in the coordination of research activities and actively contribute to research results to achieve project milestones;
  • Contribute to the preparation of research proposal submissions to funding agencies;
  • Participate and/or present at conferences and/or workshops relevant to the project as needed;
  • Assist in the supervision of research students in the area of ​​research as required.

Terms:

  • Appropriate certification: university degree, proven experience in the field of complete software development;
  • Well-established experience with a range of relevant computer programming languages ​​such as Python, R, C/C++ and/or Java, etc. ;
  • Strong ability and desire to learn new programming languages ​​and technologies as needed for collaborative research activities;
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team, collaborate across disciplines and build effective relationships;
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to communicate (written and oral in English) and interact with a wide range of stakeholders and students.
