Work to transform Dresden into a “Christmas city” is underway

The City of Dresden comes together to ensure the community lives up to its slogan, The Christmas Town of Southwestern Ontario.

The holiday season kicks into high gear on Thursday when the total makeover is complete.

“We are excited to continue to grow and build Christmas Town,” Dresden Shines Board Member Stuart Kiar said in a press release. “So many volunteers have come together to make this happen, and it’s truly fascinating to see what’s possible when we’re all working towards a goal.”

The Christmas Night Market returns on Saturday, November 26 from 3-8 p.m. in downtown Dresden. It will feature nearly 100 local vendors, food trucks, performances and photos with Santa Claus.

There will also be a pop-up holiday bar for adults to grab a drink.

“There will be something for everyone in Christmas Town, thanks to the hard work of community groups,” said Dresden Shines committee member Liz Kominek. “We have many reasons to come to Christmas Town multiple times throughout the holiday season.”

The Illumination Tour featuring homes and businesses illuminated for the holidays will return and organizers are encouraging people in Dresden and the region to decorate their homes with lights.

The initiative will give residents and visitors the opportunity to drive throughout the community and enjoy the exhibits.

Other events scheduled over the festive period include the Dresden Kinsmen Santa Claus Parade, Neighborhood Cup and IODE House Tour.

“Our community has made Christmas Town a reality,” said Dresden Shines member Rose Northcott.
